Did Not Attend

Did Not Attend Appointment (DNAs)

There are approximately 10% of DNAs ‘did not attends’ per month, i.e. the patient does not turn up for the appointment and does not contact the surgery before the appointment time to cancel/change the appointment. DNAs have a negative impact on the service we provide in terms of cost to the practice and waiting times for available appointments.

The effects of DNAs are:

  • An increase in the waiting time for appointments.
  • Frustration for both staff and patients.
  • A waste of resources.
  • Potential risk to the health of the patient re. failure to engage
